Dorothy Owen began the study of child development thirty years ago while still early in her career. Then she would come to discover her own child needed more help than she was able to provide at the time. This need led her to the Davis Dyslexia Association International in 1995 where a remarkable training program had been developed. The association's founder, Ronald D. Davis, had written a book on the subject in 1994, The Gift of Dyslexia, that is widely recognized as bringing breakthrough results.

Mrs. Owen was so impressed with the dramatic improvement in her child's abilities because of the Davis methods that she intensified her studies and became a licensed Davis Facilitator, opening a training center in Dallas, Texas, in 1997.

When Mrs. Owen became licensed as a Davis Dyslexia Specialist in 1999, and qualified to supervise and guide Davis methods to other professionals, she was invited to appear on national television and showcase the Davis methods.

Also Mrs. Owen continues to sponsor Davis Fundamentals Workshops throughout the United States which are attended by people of all occupations, especially health care and education.
